That said, the tweets under this hashtag are pure gold, and I've selected my favs to determine 3 characteristics of realistic teenage life:
Did you take part in #VeryRealisticYA? Any anecdotes of your own to share?

This is hilarious. XD I should scroll through more of these sometime; it's so funny how the things that are the most important to us in real life are hardly important at all in books... Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I needed it! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Heather! And yes, the hashtag was an absolutely genius idea, and I was so happy to see it trend for over a day, I think. That's definitely a great point -- one of the most important things of drama is escapism, at least for myself personally, even if it reflects issues in real life. Always glad to make a difference :D
DeleteThis is great!! How did I miss this xD
ReplyDeleteBut also so very true. Perhaps thats why we like books so much- they take us away from college worries, grades and other things us 'normal' teenagers worry about.
Haha, yes, trending hashtags on Twitter tend to just slip by. I happened to follow both John and Ava, who were very vocal on the hashtag, and so found it :D And yes! Sometimes the most pressing concerns of teenage life just aren't that fun to write or read :D
DeleteThese were really funny. If YA books were as realistic as real life, books wouldn't be as interesting as they are now (and where would Fantasy and Sci-fi go?!)
ReplyDeleteI know, right? There are some absolute gems on the hashtag. I think the crux of this hashtag is to point out elements often neglected in YA, like friends and parents and diversity and tests, but these are left out for a good reason. Although I've jotted down some ideas for future use ;)
DeleteOoh. I witnessed this unfold on Twitter! It's really interesting and very telling of how reality works in contrast to the "perception" of reality, and how we, YAs, view these.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! Some of the tweets had legitimate concerns about gaping holes in the majority of YA, but others just didn't work for a reason -- possibly because as teens, some problems we don't want to deal with in real life AND in fiction.
DeleteI definitely think you chose some of the best ones! This is SUCH a great hashtag and very true, as well :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I really enjoyed reading the Tweets under this hashtag as well :D
Deleteoh my gosh those are so funny. lol. Im so going to stalk this hashtag later. thanks for sharing!

Thank you, Faith! I think the frenzy is generally over, but there are still some gems to be mined under hashtag. Have fun searching!
DeleteoH my gosh. THESE ARE SO PERFECT. I love this hashtag and I enjoyed scrolling through the epic ones. xD This round up is too wonderful though.
ReplyDeleteMY THOUGHTS PRECISELY. John's were particularly epic, of course, but there were many great participants in this hashtag. Thanks for reading, Cait!
DeleteI am in LOVE with these, oh my goodness! Now I am going to have to go and spend hours looking at all of them. These are seriously pure gold. Thank you so much for sharing, I don't know how I missed this!
ReplyDeleteShannon @ It Starts At Midnight
Oh, I spent SO long reading these when the hashtag first starting trending. I suggest you start with John himself and Ava Jae -- all of their tweets were amazing. Glad you like this hashtag! :D
DeleteHAHAHA Alyssa, thanks for collecting these, they're seriously amazing. I saw this hashtag floating around last, wish I remembered to participate haha. xx
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome; glad I made you laugh! I actually considered participating, but never mustered the courage and/or thought of something really original. Oh well, it was fun reading and curating :)
DeleteI love these!! I can relate, my teenage life was kind of boring...only doing homework and applying to university.
ReplyDeleteAhaha, yes. No matter how supposedly dull #VeryRealisticYA is, it's definitely relatable!
